The sixth man obviously has been missing at Florida A&M basketball games this season. Without the Marching 100 — placed on indefinite suspension by FAMU President James H. Ammons days after the Nov. 19 hazing death of drum major Robert Champion — the Lawson Center has been noticeably quiet.

Timeline decribes hazing at FAMU, and what has been the outcome, plus what should be new guidlines. The hazing culture at Florida A&M University’s famed marching band is so entrenched that the search for solutions will be difficult. A major incident occurred in 2001 when Marcus Wayne Parker, a Wolfson High School graduate from Jacksonville, was paddled so severely in a hazing ritual conducted by the FAMU band members that he suffered acute renal failure.
